The need to create and keep consumer confidence is something of a buzzword in the gem and jewellery industry. Today, with small, lab-grown diamonds being mixed undisclosed with parcels of natural rough, there is a heightened sense of urgency in the quest for consumer assurance measures.
A parcel of a few diamonds came to GSI for testing. Size of diamonds ranges from 0.40 – 0.70 Cts. Diamonds graded as high clarity and near colourless, but some were lab grown. Natural diamonds and laboratory grown diamonds have nearly identical properties.
